Similarities in architecture, Dar es salaam is like New York.



   It is not often to find two architecture from different culture matches, but it happens sometimes. In ancient times there is similarity in ziggurats and pyramids of Egypt. 

    Here is an interesting similarity between Dar es salaam and New York. The similarity is between two different buildings from those two cities to match in shape and form.
The similarity is brought by awkward site which is found in those two sites. The building in New York is called Flatiron Building.

    The designers were forced to shape the building in accordance to the site. Both buildings are triangular in shape because the sites are in the corner where two roads meet in less than 90 degrees. Both buildings rise from ground-up in triangular shape which make them unique and unusual. 

Flatiron Building.

   Flatiron building is located at 175 Fifth Avenue, New York and building in Dar es salaam is located along Msimbazi street, Kariakoo. Flatiron building was completed in 1902, and the building in Dar es salaam was comleted in early 2000’s, almost 100 years later!

   Flatiron is an office building and the building In Dar es salaam is a mixed use building with shops to the ground floor and residential activities to the upper floors. 


   The major difference is in size and number of stories between two buildings. Building in New York has 22 stories, and building in Dar es salaam has 7 stories with less size compared to New York’s.
