CONSIDERATIONS OF PLUMBING SERVICES IN A BUILDING.

     The plumbing in a building is somehow a complex system so it needs many considerations before the designing process begin. Among of things to consider in plumbing services of the building are;

1. Client’s requirements.
First the designer should know about the requirements of the client. These requirements will guide the designer on how the system should be. Other clients need hot water and cold water system, and others prefer one of them.

2. Type of the building
There are various types of building such as – commercial buildings, residential buildings, etc. These various types of buildings require various types of plumbing systems. If the building has many users of water, then its system of plumbing would be different from the one with few users. For example the plumbing system in a hotel would vary from the residential house. The hotel need much water compared to the residential house. The type of the building affects the design of plumbing system in a particular building.

3. Peak hours.
There are some buildings which its users use much water in certain time. Example in hostels or sometimes hotels, the peak hours are in the morning and evening. This means that at this time many users use water at the same time. In this case the designer should consider the extra storage or provision of high pressure in a system during those hours.

4. Climatic condition.
The designer must consider climatic condition of a place since it affects the design of a plumbing system in a building. Example in very cold areas the pipe systems must not be exposed in order to avoid freezing of water, but in normal temperature areas the pipes can be exposed.

5. Number of floors.
Number of floors affects the plumbing design in a building because of increasing number of activities and users. If the building has many floors, then there must be much water available with high pressure compared to a building with few floors.

6. Cost constraints.
Designer should consider the cost limitations of the project. Some plumbing systems cost much money than other systems. Every project has its cost constraints, the designer must consider these cost constraints in his/her design so that he/she cannot go out of the budget.

7. Presence of public water systems.
Designer must know the presence or absence of the public water systems which are available around the particular building so that it can be employed and associated in the design. Example if the building is found around the area with no public sewer, then the designer must consider how he/she will treat the waste water.

8. Authorities’ constraints.
Before designer start designing a plumbing system in a building, he/she must know the laws of plumbing at the particular area/region/country by consulting the local water authorities.. Every area/region/country has its bylaws on plumbing systems, example in the usage of public sewer, materials, size of pipes, etc.

9. Availability of materials.
Designer of the plumbing system in a building must consider the materials which are available within the area which will meet the cost and maximize the speed of construction. The designer must advise the client on materials to use, which meet the budget and durable.

10. Serviceability of the system.
The designer must know how the system would be going to be serviced and fixed if there is any problem. The system should be designed to make it easy for future maintenance. If the system is very complex, it will be hard and cost much money to maintain it.
